Common questions about University of Rwanda admissions and policies
Admission is based on academic merit. General requirements include:
- Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education (A-Level) or equivalent.
- At least two relevant Principal Passes for most Undergraduate programs.
- Equivalence certificate from REB or NESA (for students with foreign qualifications).
The non-refundable application fee is **10,000 RWF** for East African applicants and **$50** for international applicants. Payments are made via the **Irembo** platform or generated UR Reference numbers through bank/mobile money.
Currently, the University of Rwanda **does not offer direct internal scholarships**. Most students are funded via the Government of Rwanda through the Higher Education Council (HEC) and BRD loan schemes. We also accept students sponsored by external organizations or self-sponsored students.
The University of Rwanda usually follows an academic calendar that starts in **September/October**. However, specific intake dates are announced via the UR official website and local media during the application period.
Yes. However, you must obtain an **Equivalence Certificate** from the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) or NESA (National Examination and School Inspection Authority). Without this, your application cannot be finalized.
Transfer between programs is possible but highly restricted. It depends on:
- Availability of space in the new program.
- Meeting the required cut-off points for the new program.
- Approval by the College Academic Council.
